Pre-Festival Activities

Pre-Festival activities provide an opportunity to learn from visual and performing artists who will be involved in the Festival. Pre-Festival workshops include opportunities for both young people and adults in a variety of artistic disciplines.

2007 offerings include:

In the Loop
Contribute your tuneful "junk" and join the Brandon Draper, Joshua Conner and Brett Matlbie in creating a "Jam Wagon" prior to the Festival. Imagine the equipment from the musical "Stomp" where anyone can walk up and jam on it! This audience interactive instrument (and the performances) will combine loop-based music, tribal drumming and found-sound percussion elements. Then, the whole contraption (with the artists) will move to a different location at the Festival each day.

Search through your basement, attic, kitchen drawers or garage and bring your found percussion objects to contribute them to the wagon. The artists and others will be working to craft this collaborative musical instrument and you can be a part of it all!

Festival Families First
A grassroots way for those who love the Smoky Hill River Festival to help make it even more accessible to families with needs, this program creates an avenue for button donations. The Festival works with several identified Salina service agencies to provide Festival admission buttons to their clients. Give a dollar, give what you can, to give the gift of the Festival to those who might otherwise never experience it!
Donations may be made by check (marked "Festival Families") to:
