Happy 150th Salina!: Visit the Smoky Hill Museum, 211 W. Iron Ave., in Salina between May 2008 and February 2009 for a special 150th anniversary exhibit and a look back at some of Salina’s favorite places. Throughout the spring and summer, there will be several family-friendly activities celebrating the city’s sesquicentennial – from workshops to historic re-enactors to civic historical events. The celebration concludes with a street dance and parade in conjunction with the Smoky Hill Museum Street Fair on Saturday, September 27th.
Celebrate Art a la Carte: Relax in the afternoon sun with live music as part of the Salina Arts and Humanities Commission’s ongoing Art a la Carte series. Outdoor concerts, featuring local talent, are offered 12:20 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. every Friday during the spring and fall at the Campbell Plaza in downtown Salina.
First Thursday Art Rush: Join downtown businesses in a celebration of art and the community for First Thursday Art Rush – an ongoing collaborative downtown event. Many businesses stay open late, while the art galleries host special exhibits. Walk Santa Fe for food, shopping, art, and more. Held the first Thursday of every month between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Grease: Mark your calendar now for Grease – the 2008 Salina Performing Arts Academy Summer Stage performance. Shows for the popular musical run at 7 p.m. Aug. 1-2, 8-9 and 2 p.m. on Aug. 10 at the Salina Community Theatre, 303 E. Iron. For ticket information, call 785-827-3033.
